Grok, the AI chatbot from Elon Musk’s xAI, is now accessible to all users on the X platform. Several users noticed the upgrade on Friday, which enables non-premium members to message Grok up to ten times per two hours.
Initially launched last year as a “humorous AI assistant” for Premium subscribers, Grok’s availability has now expanded to a broader audience. In August, xAI introduced a text-to-image feature, though it received mixed reactions due to some of the questionable images it produced.
In certain areas, xAI had been testing a free version of Grok. Making the chatbot accessible to a wider audience could help it compete with other free chatbots, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Anthropic’s Claude.
In addition, xAI, which recently secured $6 billion in its latest funding round, is reportedly considering launching a dedicated app for Grok—something that competitors like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude already offer, as noted by The Wall Street Journal.
